Bassist Stan Gilbert born in 1938 in New York City, New York, Growing up in a classical family, his older sister Iris a classical pianist, his brother concert Violinist, and his brother in-law also a concert Violinist. Stan has played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Long Beach Symphony and the San Diego Symphony Orchestras.
Stan has performed and/or recorded with: Cal Tjader, Freddie Hubbard,Lou Rawls, Nancy Wilson, Less McCann, Blue Mitchell, Philly Joe Jones, Donald B,yrd, Thelonious Monk,Teddy Edwards just to name a few.
Stan works perform in Japan with his duo. He was general manager of a jazz club in Akasaka Tokyo. Stan also reintroduce west coast USA jazz to Japan by producing, recording and performing on several successful Japanese record releases. Stan live in Japan and is home about twice a year.
I was able to catch up with him in his home in Long Beach. Setting down talking to him was great, and I know this well be the beginning of a great friendship. I was honored having a wonderful conversation with him. This interview was recorded in Long Beach, Ca. Nov 14, 2014
